Help the Aged logo Age UK is the new force combining Age Concern and Help the Aged. We will be known by our new name from Spring 2010.

The Time Capsule - 1950s

Coronation Day 1953
I remember the coronation so well‚ I remember Mum & Dad getting our first TV‚ tall brown wooden box with 9 inch screen‚ on the day our elderly neighbour‚ Mrs Bird came to us and we sat and we all watched the Coronation. My sister was just a babe at that time. All that pomp and ceremony was wonderful to watch and for me as a 6 year old it was like magic being able to see it as well.   I remember also but not as clearly when the Queen coming through a road near school and us kids waving Union Jacks.
