The Time Capsule - Leisure Time

Holiday Week 1938

Lancashire mill towns had holiday weeks‚ some called them wakes weeks. Ours was the 2nd week in July.

Everything shut down‚ mills‚shops‚schools. We saved up all year round & used Cop-op divi.to go to seaside towns for a week‚ we went to Blackpool on the train. During the week we were always bumping into friends & neighbours‚ It seemed the whole town had transferred to the seaside. There was always a visit to the Tower Circus and every day was spent on the sands & in the water. Great.
